Underfloor Heating For New Home Construction

If you are about to, or are in the process of having a custom home built, then by all means you should review the option of having underfloor heating put in place before the flooring material is installed. This version of heating used to be reserved for the wealthy and persons living in extremely cold climates, but as markets and competition have expanded, the prices have dropped enough to where the average person building a home can afford the luxury of having heated floors throughout their new house. They can be quite cost effective as well, when working in conjunction with a forced air-heating appliance.

The cost of installing underfloor heating during the construction process should save money due to the fact that you will not have to pay to have your floor removed, and the debris carted off at your expense. The time, and or money spent in having the floors cleaned, patched, and leveled will not be an issue as everything will be in new condition. So having this done as an after thought five years down the road will cost thousands more in preparation than doing it right now. The added benefit of having all the perquisite wiring done before the drywall goes up is a cost cutting step too.

If you are having an outdoor living area built off the back of your home that includes a living room and kitchen, consider having the same heating system installed in that area too. This will help keep you warm on those fall nights so you can extend your outdoor entertaining a few more weeks during the year. In addition, in the winter, you can use the heating system to melt excessive amounts of snow off the backside of your home. On a side note, similar technology is available to keep large amounts of snow and ice from damning up on your roof and causing damage from too much weight.
