More often than not, it is the elderly and the handicapped who will benefit the most from sit down shower units. For most of us who don’t have any physical disabilities, taking a shower is an everyday routine that can be done with no effort at all. But for the physically handicapped and the elderly, what seems like an easy task for many can be a nightmare to them.
Most elderly and disabled persons find it too difficult even to move around the bathroom without the help of another person. However, many physically handicapped and elderly person feel helpless and humiliated with having another person around even during their most personal and private moment. For this reason, special shower units were designed to allow the disabled to regain their independence and go about their business in the bathroom without additional help.
Bathroom especially designed for the elderly and the handicapped have various features and accessories to help them take a shower or bath safely and conveniently. They have shower enclosures with specially-made chairs where the handicapped can sit comfortably while they take a shower. Even the soap can be accessed at a comfortable level without having to reach too low or too high.
Raising their leg to get inside a bathtub or a soaking tub can also be too difficult for most handicapped individuals. That is why there are certain soaking tub varieties that have swinging watertight doors which allow the disabled to easily get in or out. These tubs also come with seats where the user can sit and relax as they soak in warm water.
Sit down shower enclosures also come with grab bars which handicapped persons can cling to in order to move around safely. They also have slip-proof floor mats that provide more traction.
