Massey Ferguson as a company is the result of a merger between Massey Harris and Harry Ferguson in 1953, the two companies came together to form Massey Harris Ferguson. It was in 1958 the Harris part of the name was dropped and the company became Massey Ferguson.

Through the 1960s and in to the 1970s Massey Ferguson continued to expand globally with sales record regularly being broken. New manufacturing plants were opened in Poland and other parts of Europe. New models were being introduced to many countries around the world, including Asia, the Middle East and South America. Now with over 67000 workers world wide and production at its highest, with more than 20000 machines being imported to Japan, Massey Ferguson was the World leader in farming machinery.

The boom of the 1970s took a downturn in the early eighties, as demand for agricultural machinery dropped. At this time the firm had direct market coverage in 180 countries and fought the downturn by continuing to introduce new models and types of farming machinery.
