Search For The Right Iron Canopy Bed For Your Budget

An iron canopy bed may be available for purchase in two forms. One is a canopy bed that was originally made in a different time period with beautiful and unique designs. Such a bed usually is an antique and carries an appropriately high price tag. The other is a less expensive, modern style of canopy bed in iron that will be much cheaper and may also look like it is. If you have the available funds, the antique type of bed is recommended.

The search for such a bed may need to start at an auction house. If you live near a major metropolitan area or a large town, you may find several auction houses worth a visit. Better quality antiques can usually be found at the larger auction houses. Small towns may have an antique shop that sponsors a once a month auction where you may find a unique piece also. Companies that host estate sale are another excellent source as they are often hired by heirs to clean out and close up a relative’s house.

If there is no auction company nearby to visit, your next good choice is to search online. You should also check out the ads in interior design and home decor magazines to see if any are offered there. Finally, there are companies that will custom make a bed for you. There are still marvelous craftsmen who produce beautiful hand-crafted furniture, even iron beds with canopies. Some manufacture retro style or antique reproduction pieces while others provide a more contemporary choice of pieces and styles. Since the canopy bed originated in Europe be prepared to check the suppliers there for your bespoke bed.

If your budget does not allow for such a special order you will have to shop smart, be open-minded and get creative. You may be able to find an old wrought iron bed for a great price that looks really ugly. Consider if a little elbow-grease on the metal would improve the look of the piece. Have a machinist shop make a canopy for it. If not, shop for recently manufactured bed with style and adapt it to look like the original.
