One of the ways you know that your water head has minerals, as you will find a chalky white film on your body after you are finished taking a shower.
If you have a lot of minerals in your area, you may want to consider buying a whole house water filter as well. These work by filtering your entire water supply coming into your home from your basement. You can do this by yourself, or hire a third party contractor if you are not comfortable with performing your own house improvement tasks. Keep in mind that major home improvement tasks can be risky, when you’re dealing with plumbing. Do not risk water damage if you are not comparable working on piping.
If you’re going to replace your fixtures in your bathroom, you should consider buying your bathroom shower head along with your bathroom sink fixtures at the same time. Buying them at the same time would assure that you have a good match with regards to the fit and finish.
Keep in mind that many different companies use different materials and it can be hard to obtain the right shading for material such as stainless steel. Avoid buying plastic shower heads as they may not last as long and a heavy usage environment. Shower heads which have plastic internals are also more prone to leaking over time as well. Leaks can be extremely costly as you are wasting hot water.
