Elk Hunting

Big game hunting can make for a great weekend or vacations. This article discusses some of the best places to experience this. Choosing location and company wisely means that the whole experience will be most enjoyable. Another important point to consider is the whole issue of weapon transport. Every hunter has his or her preferred guns and a hunting vacation would be only half as pleasurable with a borrowed or rented one. Therefor it is important to know exactly which laws apply to importing hunting weapons into other states and countries and how they can be transported.

Elk hunting is possible in around half of the US states, here a list in alphabetical order: Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia and Wyoming. Whilst all of these facilitate great elk hunts, Alaska and Colorado add also the most stunning landscape to the experience.

And there are also international destinations available. For example Norway or Sweden with its sparsely populated but wildlife-rich countryside. Apart of elks, or moose as they are alternatively known, Norway offers hunters several other varieties of deer and other game. If you are lucky, you can even observe wolverine, lynx, wolf and brown bear, but the hunting for these might be restricted depending on the part of the country you are in.

If Scandinavia doesn’t appeal, or is to expensive, a lot of East European countries offer also free range hunting for big game to visitors. Especially Poland has acquired quite a reputation for this. A typical hunting trip of 5 days / 7 nights, food, drinks and guide plus interpreter included can be found for under $2,000. These are only a few destination suggestions, there are many more available. Wherever you decide to go, doing a bit of research beforehand will pay out big time during your vacations.
