Effective Flea Treatment Methods

You come back from vacation and you find your dog is scratching himself like crazy. Uh-oh, that’s right. He has fleas. To thoroughly understand just how fast fleas can populate, you should know that one mother flea equals 2,000 eggs or more in her very short life. How exactly do you wrap your brain around that? Small wonder that it’s driving your pet nuts!

Dogs can get fleas from just about anywhere. Usually, however, it’s from other infected dogs such as when you allowed Fido stay at your local kennel when you left. Pretty soon, the fleas start a small population on your rug and it’s all over your house, your family as well as your pets.

So how to get rid of fleas?

Get your dog treated with Diatomaceous Earth, preferable food grade one! You can ask your veterinarian about this dog flea treatment, but, in a nutshell, it is a completely safe powder that affects only insects like ticks, bed bugs and fleas and simply dries them out. It kills existing fleas and eliminate the very young fleas or those that are just about to be born. Simply powder your pet and its surroundings with it, rub it well in and brush off again after a few hours! Remember it is safe for all other mammals and people, no need to through the chemical bomb ;-) The only drawback is that it is a white powder, so get the vacuum cleaner out after the treatment is finished!

After most fleas are exterminated, you will have to clean up your rug. Use the kind of vacuum that can suck up all the fleas in the world. Yes, get a vacuum that strong and then use again Diatomaceous Earth so you don’t leave a single flea alive. This method is so much more effective – and safer – than chemical flea bombs! No need to worry about inhaling chemicals or putting your kids and pets at danger. DE is a natural mineral product that works in a mechanic way and doesn’t poison anything.

And last, but not least, use it also on your yard to get rid of the flea eggs, fleas, and larvae, it will even help your plants to grow stronger. It’s not easy dealing with fleas but it’s definitely very important. Remember that a happy family (including your pet, of course) is a flea-free family!
