6 Things To Think About When Buying A Toilet

Yes six things. If you are in the market for a toilet, it makes sense to think through all the criteria necessary to ensure your toilet not only looks good but also works effectively. I’m sure it’s not your life ambition to become skilled in knowing how to unclog a toilet or handy with a toilet flange plunger. So when narrowing down your options don’t just think about color and style also dig into the technical questions of flushing performance and trap way size. Here are six things to consider as part of your decision-making:

1) The rough-in distance measures the space between the wall and the main drain over which you will be placing the toilet. The standard size is 12 inches. If you deviate from this you will have less models to choose from.

2) Yes color is important. Most designers would suggest you match the toilet to the color of other fixtures in the bathroom. If in doubt, choose white. For a seamless look remember to match the toilet handle to the faucets on your sink, bath or shower.

3) One piece toilets where the tank connects seamlessly with the toilet bowl have considerably style appeal. They’re also easier to clean than toilets with a separate tank and bowl. But they come with a bigger price tag.

4) When it comes to shape you may be restricted by the size of your bathroom. While elongated bowls are considered more comfortable, rounded designs will use up less space.

5) Taller toilets are widely available. They are easier to sit down on and get up from and also more comfortable for taller people.

6) When it comes to flushing performance consider getting a vacuum assist toilet rather than a simple gravity flush. They are more expensive, but you may be thankful in the long run. Choose a model with a large water spot to minimize streaks and stains.
